CT-based measures of brain atrophy show promise in diagnosis

Computed tomography (CT)-derived volumetric measures correlate well with other markers of neurodegeneration, and could aid the early detection of dementia, according to new data.

  • Presenting at AAIC 2021, Dr Meera Srikrishna from the Institute of Physiology and Neuroscience at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, reported findings from research utilizing computer-aided methods to quantify brain tissue class volumes from CT.

The researchers had previously developed deep-learning based models based on CT-MRI pairs from the Gothenburg H70 Birth Cohort (n-734, including 722 cognitively normal).
